Homesick Struggles + Latest Sephora Haul

October 17, 2016

Hi guys! Today’s post is going to be a little different than usual. Many of you have requested that I talk more about my personal life than strictly beauty and fashion, and I totally agree. I can post pretty pictures of all my beauty favs and fashion finds all day long, but opening up about my personal life has always made me hesitate a little bit, mostly due to my own insecurities. I don’t ever want to judge or be judged, so I’m sometimes too quick to stay inside my shell of comfort and play it safe. Starting now, that is going to change. So here’s to opening up, being transparent, and being ME.

If you’re new here and don’t already know this, I am not a Houston native. My husband and I moved here in the Spring of 2015 so he could attend one of the top Doctorate of Physical Therapy programs in the country. I left behind the small town in West Texas that I was born and raised in, which included a job that I loved, practically all of my family, and tons of friends. I struggled a lot in the beginning. I didn’t want to accept that I was leaving it all behind, but I knew deep down that it was a no-brainer. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for my husband, and I was of course going to support him.

Now after living in Houston for about a year and a half, I’ve come to love this city we now call home. I have a great job, my husband is thriving in school, and I’ve met some amazing people that are now great friends, but something is still missing. I’ve tried to fill that void in so many different ways, but always end up falling short.

When you move away from your friends and family, you’re not the only one that has to adjust. They have to as well. I’ve experienced feeling like I’m the only one not there, being out of the loop, and being the last to know about anything. I had a family emergency literally less than 2 weeks after we moved here, and the fact that I was 500 miles away and the only one that couldn’t get there within 5 minutes was the most heart wrenching feeling I’ve ever experienced. I felt so helpless and so alone.

If you’re going through something similar, I encourage you to talk to your friends and family about how you feel. It helps for them to understand where you’re coming from and why you might seem distant. It will be ok, and it will get better, I promise!

Now that I’ve babbled for way too long, let’s get into my most recent Sephora haul! One thing you’ll learn pretty quick about me is that I practically live at Sephora. What can I say? It’s my happy place! I’ll keep the rest of this post short and sweet. All the products are linked as usual for quick and easy shopping. Enjoy!

caudalie-micellar-cleansing-water

Micellar Cleansing Water x Caudalie

This stuff is BOMB! Caudalie is such a great brand that consistently comes out with amazing products. I got this in a sample size as part of a 500 reward point set and immediately fell in love with it. My favorite way to use it is in the mornings before I apply my toner and moisturizer. I don’t use a facial cleanser in the mornings, so this is a perfect alternative for me. It cleans all of the excess oil and dirt off of my face from the night before, but doesn’t strip my face of the natural oils that it needs.

origins-ginzing-energy-boosting-treatment-lotion-mist

GinZing™ Energy-Boosting Treatment Lotion Mist x Origins

Orange juice and citrus. That’s what this lotion mist reminds me of. I’ve been using it non-stop and started running low, so I picked up another bottle. Head over to my August Favorites post from the other week to see why I love this stuff so much!

ole-henriksen-truth-sugar-glow-polishing-mask

Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask x Ole Henriksen

’m a huge fan of Ole Henriksen and have used their Truth Serum® Vitamin C Anti-Aging Collagen Booster for years. This polishing mask reminds me a lot of that serum, except in a sugar scrub form. It has sugar and pomegranate seeds that exfoliate your skin and rid it of any dead skin cells, leaving you with a glowing complexion. I’ve been using it once a week and am loving the results!

sephora-sheet-masks

Algae and Green Tea sheet masks x Sephora

I’ve talked about Sephora’s sheet masks many times before. They’re SO GOOD and AFFORDABLE! The algae mask is designed to detoxify and help with dullness, while the green tea mask mattifies and helps with breakouts. I have oily acne prone skin, so these masks are perfect for me. Sephora has several other types to choose from, so I highly recommend checking them out and getting some that are right for you!

dr-jart-sheet-masks

Water Replenishment Cotton Sheet Mask x Dr. Jart+

Pore Minimalist Black Charcoal Sheet Mask x Dr. Jart+

I saw these while I was waiting in the check-out line and had to grab them. I’m always game for trying new sheet masks! The water replenishment cotton mask is great for sensitive skin and contains witch hazel which is amazing for moisturizing purposes. The pore minimalist black charcoal mask has activated Korean charcoal and spearmint extract, which is great for detoxifying and cleaning out your pores. I haven’t tried either one of these yet, but I’ll definitely let you know my thoughts over on my Instagram once I’ve tried them!

urban-decay-all-nighter-liquid-foundation

All Nighter Liquid Foundation x Urban Decay

Alright y’all, this foundation is HEAVY DUTY. Like super-duper heavy duty. I swear by the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray so it was no surprise that I fell in love with this foundation. It’s super full coverage and will not budge once you apply it and set it. It’s honestly a little too much for me to handle on a daily basis, but for a night out on the town, this foundation is perfect!

kat-von-d-lock-it-concealer

Lock-It Concealer Crème x Kat Von D

If you’re looking for a full coverage concealer, this is the one for you. It does apply a little thick and patchy, but once you blend it in and set it, you can rest assured that it’s not going to budge. There is a wide shade range which I always love when brands do that. This concealer is definitely a favorite of mine!

nars-bronzing-powder-in-laguna

Bronzing Powder in shade ‘Laguna’ x NARS

NARS always kills the game when it comes to powder cheek products, and this bronzer is no exception. So buttery and easy to blend! This shade is so gorgeous and compliments lighter skin tones like mine very well. I sometimes struggle with finding bronzers that don’t look too orange on me. This one is the perfect warm shade!

becca-shimmering-skin-perfector-pressed-in-moonstone

Shimmering Skin Perfector™ Pressed in shade ‘Moonstone’ x BECCA

I am OBSESSED with the highlighters that BECCA puts out, and I couldn’t believe I didn’t have this shade! It’s the perfect in between. It’s not silver or stark white, but it’s also not too yellow. It’s the most gorgeous light golden, peachy, champagne color. I’m in love! I’ve been using it non-stop and have gotten so many compliments on it. It gives you a very natural looking glow, which I’m a fan of. I don’t like to have a beaming streak across my cheekbone.

too-faced-better-than-sex-mascara

Better Than Sex Mascara x Too Faced

Y’all already know my thoughts on the water proof version of this mascara. I absolutely hated it. Several of you said that you had the same experience with the water proof formula and encouraged me to try the original… THANK YOU! I am so glad I listened to y’all and gave this one a shot. It’s amazing! I went through a whole tube in a little over a month and had to by this second one, haha!

too-faced-melted-matte-liquified-long-wear-matte-lipstick-in-drop-dead-red

Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick in shade ‘Drop Dead Red’ x Too Faced

I’m so picky when it comes to matte liquid lipsticks. I don’t want it to be patchy or start to ball up and flake off after a few hours, but I also want great color payoff. Is that too much for a girl to ask?! This formula by Too Faced is amazing. I have several other colors, and when I saw this deep vampy color in store, I had to grab it. I’ve worn it several times and have gotten lots of compliments! It’s the perfect color for Fall/Winter.

abh-liquid-lipstick-in-dolce-and-kathryn

Liquid Lipstick in shades ‘Dolce’ and ‘Kathryn’ x Anastasia Beverly Hills

Anastasia consistently puts out amazing products and I was so excited when her liquid lips came out! I have several other shades (of course) and honestly I wish I would have picked these shades up earlier in the year. They are perfect for Spring/Summer, but I’m still going to wear them here and there during Fall/Winter. They are super pigmented and apply like a dream!

This was one of my favorite Sephora hauls that I’ve had in a while. It was a nice mixture of skincare and makeup products. I’ll definitely continue to do more of these haul types posts as I go, because I know you guys enjoy seeing them! I know the beginning of this post was a little lengthy, but I really wanted to open up to you guys and show you that I’m human too. When you look at someone’s online life, it can be very misleading. Behind all of the pretty pictures and perky social media posts, there’s a real person that has daily struggles just like everyone else. I want y’all to know that I am here for you and that if you ever want to chat, I’m just a click away! Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to me. I love hearing from y’all! I hope everyone had a great Monday and started off their week with a smile. See ya next time!

XX,

Andi
